Streaming to Instagram will require access to the Instagram Live Producer in order to go live from external software. To check if you have access to the producer, open Instagram.com and click the Create button. If you see the option for “Live video” you have access to their Live Producer. If you don’t have access to the Live Producer, you can also use a program such as Yellow Duck to go live. You can find our tutorial on going live with Lightstream using Yellow Duck here.
Since Instagram isn’t fully integrated with Lightstream, the best way to add it as a destination will be through our Custom RTMP Destination option.
1. To get started, open Instagram.com
2. Click “Create” and select “Live video”
3. Fill out your stream’s title as well as the audience for the broadcast (practice for private or public for your followers to see) and then hit “Next”
4. You will then see a page displaying your Stream URL as well as your Stream key (NOTE: This stream key will change every time you wish to go live to Instagram)
5. Return to Lightstream and click “Add a destination” at the top right corner of your Lightstream Studio. If a destination is already added, you will want to click the Destinations section at the top right instead which will provide you the option to add another destination
6. Select RTMP from the available options
7. Bring in your Stream URL and Stream key, give your destination a name and click “Add Destination”
8. Once you’re ready to go live, you’ll want to start your broadcast from within Lightstream and then hit “Go Live” within the Instagram Live Producer to start your stream
9. To end your stream, hit “End live video” from within the Instagram Live Producer and then end your broadcast inside of Lightstream
